The Times - 13th September 1888SPRING HEELED JACK KILLSMiss Camellia Dower was yesterday shot dead by Spring Heeled Jack, as she visited a friend in Holburn. Miss Dower was having breakfast, with two, so far unnamed people, when the so called Spring Heeled Jack burst in through a window. In the confusion that followed, Miss Dower was shot fatally by the psychotic dwarf. He then made his escape chasing the unidentified man, who police have yet to question. This is the first actual reported occurrence of Spring-Heeled Jack violently assaulting someone. All other sightings have only resulted from hearsay and rumour. James Richardson. GENERAL BOOTH ATTACKEDGeneral Booth walking home last night was violently assaulted by three men. They knocked him to the ground and beat him with staves. General Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, said "They called me the spawn of the devil, a demon. They are mad and very dangerous." OSTROG RELEASEDDoctor Joshua Ostrog, the immigrant Russian arrested on Monday for the Ripper murders, has been released without being charged. A police spokesman stated that it was through lack of evidence. Fear continues to spread rampantly throughout the East End prostitutes. Police now believe that the murder of Miss Lucinda Lush on Saturday was not the work of the Ripper. New forensic evidence shows certain irregularities between the first two murders and this one. However if the Ripper did not kill her, it must have been someone copying his style. EXPLORATION OF THE SEA BEDSir Glen Fiddich after years of research is ready to start the exploration of the sea bed, to the depth of two miles. A specially strengthened bell will be lowered from a crane ship. The pilots can then map the sea bed and bring back samples of the bottom; which might reveal many rare resources. The Royal Geographic Society has ... continued page 4. MASSACRE AT SYRTIS TRIAN BARRACKS.Unarmed women and children were yesterday butchered at the Syrtis Trian Barracks. The 8th Hussars whose base it is are fighting on the front line against the Oenotrian Horde. The undermanned base was therefore an easy target for the gangs of Ground Cleansers, who descended upon it. The guards were swept aside and the murderers fell on the resting Englishwomen. Twelve women and children and five soldiers died in the attack. The death toll would have been greater, but for the sterling gallantry of Miss Niella Whitbread. This brave young lady organised a hurried defence and later a counter attack. Fifty of the fanatical Martians perished in the attacks on her maxim gun emplacements. One hundred and seventy-two were later killed by two Aphid gunships; coming from Syrtis Major, as they fled like cowards into the hills. Twenty were captured alive and summarily hung as traitors. This heinous attack shows the weak cowardly nature of certain of the Martian peoples, namely those corrupted by foolish 'so called' wise men. E.N.W.P. RIOT IN TRAFALGAR SQUAREHundreds of E.N.W.P. thugs rioted at Trafalgar Square last night and clashed with police. A protest against the import of cheap Chinese workers from Hong Kong soon got out of hand and flared into open conflict. After the battle it was found that the honourable Malcom Boddingtons, a noted critic of the E.N.W.P. had been shot three times with a heavy revolver. No shots were heard during the riot. The victim had been due to give a speech tonight against these acts of violence. MAN RESCUED FROM RIVERA Mr George Dower was pulled from the Thames this morning and rushed to hospital where doctors managed to save his life. Unfortunately he is suffering from amnesia and police are appealing for relatives, friends, and witness's to come forward. If you have any information, please contact Sir Albert Perrier, at 11, Whitehall, Department 13.
